Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan considers the text of the country’s declaration of independence anti-state. He stated this today, October 29, reports Report.az .
“With this text, the existence of an independent state is impossible,” Pashinyan said.
He recalled that the adoption of the new Constitution of the country was included in the election program of his party “Civil Contract”. The new draft Constitution will be published soon. At the same time, Pashinyan considers the probability of holding early elections in Armenia to be low, promising “to make an offer to the opposition that it simply cannot refuse.”
As EADaily reported, the preamble of the Constitution of Armenia now states that it is based on the Declaration of Independence, which says “About the reunification of the Armenian SSR and Nagorno-Karabakh.” It also says that Armenia stands for international recognition of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 in Ottoman Turkey and Western Armenia.
In January 2024, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the country needs a new constitution “that will ensure the viability of the country in new geopolitical conditions.” On amending the Azerbaijan insists on the Constitution of Armenia.
