According to Azerbaijani media reports, speaking today at the convention of the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party, Ilham Aliyev said, in particular:
“We cannot place all the blame solely on Armenia’s former leadership. Although the former Armenian leaders – all of them – are war criminals and must face the punishment they deserve.
The current Armenian authorities have made territorial claims against us, have attempted to insult the Azerbaijani people, and have offended the dignity of the Azerbaijani people with their inappropriate and tactless statements.”
Aliyev emphasized that “we must never forget this.”
Ilham Aliyev stated that many experts and analysts already classify Azerbaijan as a middle power.
“We have fully achieved economic independence and are now a highly respected member of the international community. Our destiny is in our own hands,” Aliyev added.
According to him, “our ideological space must be free of foreign elements and foreign influences.”
