Another criminal proceeding has been initiated in connection with the incident in which an Azerbaijani serviceman illegally entered Armenia, specifically over the illegal crossing of the state border and firearms smuggling. The Prosecutor’s Office had previously announced that criminal proceedings had been initiated over the incident recorded on October 1, 2026, in the village of Shaki, Sisian community, Syunik Province, under Article 166, Part 2, Clause 6 of the Criminal Code (causing grave harm to health through the use of a weapon), Article 335, Part 1 (illegal trafficking of firearms), and Article 207, Part 1 (violation of the inviolability of a dwelling).
According to law enforcement authorities, an additional criminal proceeding has now been initiated in connection with the same incident under Article 469, Part 1 (illegal crossing of the state border) and Article 340, Part 1 (firearms smuggling) of the Criminal Code. The newly initiated proceeding has been consolidated with the main case.
As previously reported, the National Security Service (NSS) stated that an Azerbaijani serviceman had illegally crossed the state border of the Republic of Armenia and shot an Armenian citizen in the leg in the village of Shaki, Syunik Province. According to official Azerbaijani sources, the serviceman had left his duty station under unknown circumstances on September 29. The Armenian NSS said that Azerbaijan had informed the Armenian side of the incident.
It should also be noted that, in addition to the woman, her two children also sustained bodily injuries. They were transported to a medical center in Yerevan.
