Yerevan Mayor’s spokesperson Julieta Azaryan met Artak Hovhannisyan, the father of serviceman Albert Hovhannisyan, who was killed in the 44-day war.
Azaryan wrote on her Facebook page that they discussed possible solutions for the future preservation of Albert’s memorial image.
“I consider it necessary to emphasise that the issue is in the focus of attention of Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan. Possible options will be discussed in the near future, and this issue will receive a worthy and the best possible solution, taking into account first and foremost our respect for Albert’s memory and public perception. Glory to all our fallen heroes,” Azaryan wrote.
The image of Albert Hovhannisyan had been removed from the wall at the main entrance to Yerevan’s Victory Park, prompting heated discussions on social media. The municipality had explained that the wall had been cleaned ahead of restoration work and denied claims that the image had been deliberately removed.
