Key personnel changes are taking place in the security system of Armenia. Armen Grigoryan is leaving the position of Secretary of the Security Council, and he will be replaced by Alen Simonyan, former Speaker of the National Assembly.

Prime Minister at the end of today’s government session Nikol Pashinyan officially announced the dismissal of Armen Grigoryan, thanking him for his work and efforts over the past eight years.

Grigoryan, in turn, expressed his gratitude to his colleagues and the Prime Minister for their trust and joint work, stressing that it was a great honor for him to serve the Republic of Armenia. Along with this farewell announcement made at the executive session, the news of appointing Alen Simonyan to the position of the Secretary of the Council of Ministers was officially published.

It is noteworthy that Simonyan’s candidacy was rejected weeks ago at the board meeting of the ruling “Civil Agreement” party to be re-confirmed as the speaker of the parliament, after which a decision was made to entrust him with coordinating the work of the country’s security department.

The political path of the outgoing official is remarkable. Armen Grigoryan He assumed the position of the Secretary of the Security Council in May 2018, immediately after the change of power. In Nikol Pashinyan’s government, and especially in the conditions of increased staff turnover after the 2020 war, he was one of the longest-serving high-ranking officials who consecutively headed the same key department.
