August 7 will be recorded in Armenian history as a day of shame and betrayal. The Catholicos of All Armenians and six bishops of the Supreme Spiritual Council are on trial. This is not a trial, this is an unprecedented moral terror by the rulers of the day against their own people with a 1700-year Christian history. The Diocesan Council of the Armenian Diocese of Russia and New Nakhichevan and the Clergy Class issued a statement about this.
“This is a betrayal of identity, because in the face of the nationally elected ruler and clergy, they are judging the Armenian people, violating the RA constitution, the international laws of freedom of conscience and religion.
This is not a trial, but a reprisal of unbelievers, which testifies to the openly anti-church and anti-state attitude of the dictatorial rulers.
Therefore, today, when the levers of the state are used as a punitive tool against the clergy and dissent, when the authorities shape public opinion through labeling, falsehood, slander and fear, every patriotic Christian is obliged to be on the front line to fight against injustice and lawlessness for the sake of preserving our identity, sanctity and dignity.
By the will of God, these difficult days will definitely pass. Truth and justice will win, because the legal bankrupt cases “sewn” by order of the god-warring government will eventually be revealed and dusted, and Saint Etchmiadzin, as an inviolable bulwark, will stand forever with its loyal children.
It’s time to stop and sober up, because the judge of all is one – God. And “Who are you to judge your neighbor?” (James 4:12), “…but he will stand, because the Lord is able to make him stand” (Rom. 14:4).”
We pray that the Just and Merciful Lord will strengthen our spiritual class, under the guidance of the nationally elected and anointed Patriarch of All Armenians Karekin II, grant wisdom and broad-mindedness on the path of trial, and keep steadfast and united the devoted children of Holy Etchmiadzin in the homeland and in the diaspora.
