This spring, at the end of March, Anna Hakobyan RA People’s Artist, Sculptor Levon Tokmajyan performed the role of a native woman in the studio, she received the invitation from the sculptor.

of 168.am in a conversation with Levon Tokmajyan said that he gave Anna Hakobyan the picture that he made remotely and depicted.

“I was criticized a lot that I was always in the opposition, so how did it happen that I portrayed Anna Hakobyan? Well, I said, ‘You know what? I’m non-partisan, I’m a free artist, I can walk down the street, see a beautiful woman and paint, this is a natural thing, right?’ I took a picture of Anna Hakobyan’s face, it seemed like she was smiling, I don’t know if it’s like that in reality or not. That’s why I painted him, I invited him to paint with me through his assistant, he accepted my offer.

I had previously drawn him from memory, I told him to make a surprise. Anna Hakobyan saw the picture and said: This is me, I see myself in this picture. I also painted his assistant and gave those pictures to them,” the sculptor mentioned.

According to him, after that he met with Anna Hakobyan once more, because he made a request to her in connection with Hovhannes Chekijian.

“In two years it will be Hovhannes Chekijian’s 100th birthday. I sang in the National Academic Choir for 15 years. For me, Chekijian is a divine person who has given me many great creative opportunities. For example, there are sculptors to whom I say: your sculptures lack song, I have learned it.

On the occasion of Hovhannes Chekijian’s 100th birthday, I want to place my sculpture on Pushkin Street in Yerevan, where the choir’s office is located. I asked Anna Hakobyan to give me the opportunity to realize my idea on the maestro’s 100th birthday. Imagine the sculpture: Chekijian gives it size, and in the distance is the choir. Anna Hakobyan said that she would help, we drafted the letter and sent it to the Ministry of Education and Culture.

I wrote in the letter that I do not want a fee, only to help with general expenses, only the bronze master should be paid. They answered me that they were happy that I was going to meet such a great grateful person. In short, it was a letter reminiscent of a show, but there was no mention of expenses. How can I do this, since I don’t have a bronze foundry?

When the choir was renamed after Hovhannes Chekijian, they also sent me an invitation, I went, Nikol Pashinyan and the minister of KGSM were there, I accepted the invitation, I thought that maybe Anna Hakobyan had sent it.

Anna Hakobyan inquired what happened to my letter, I replied that I was surprised that she was asking me. I said, I will send the letter to him, joking that we will put it on the ground and all of us will dance kochari next to it. He laughed and said: send it. That won’t solve the problem, anyway,” emphasized Levon Tokmajyan.

According to the sculptor, he sent the answer to the letter to Anna Hakobyan, but there was no response. He says that he cannot call every day and ask what happened to the reply to the letter. The sculpture is not for him, but for Yerevan, for the nation, for Hovhannes Chekijian.

“No matter what, I’m going to make that sculpture, but I don’t know how I’m going to do it with the bronze casting costs.

Now I have so much disappointment, I have been lied to all the time, and I have been so disappointed with the officials that they will hardly encourage me to take their picture,” emphasized Levon Tokmajyan.
