According to Reuters news agency, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega announced that the country will not hold any more elections. According to Ortega, by doing so, he effectively eliminates any possibility of the opposition to take power from him.
According to Ortega, this step will prevent any opposition force from returning to power.
It is true that Ortega, who has been in charge of the country since 2007, has not specified the legal mechanism by which these changes will be implemented. But I am sure that he will do as he wants, because there is practically no opposition left in the country.
P.S. 1:
Daniel Ortega was more honest. Without handing over territory, without victims, without excessive democratic propaganda and hostile politics, without campaign lies and false propaganda about the bastion of democracy, he intends to cancel the elections and that’s it.
For example, all the oppositionists who won the local elections in Armenia in recent years went through detention centers and courts after winning. I don’t know if there is a struggling social and political organization in Armenia whose head or representative of the leadership has not been involved in any legal process for political reasons, or in the worst case, has not been arrested.
If there is no such force, maybe one day Pashinyan will follow the example of Nicaragua and completely abolish the electoral system, justifying it as a process that threatens the freedom of the opposition, the peace of Armenia and the good life of the authorities…
H.G. 2:
This statement of Daniel Ortega was made against the background of concentration of absolute power in his hands for many years.
In the last 10 years, many leaders and representatives of the opposition have been arrested, deprived or removed from political processes in Nicaragua. Constitutional amendments were made, which expanded the powers of the current leadership.”
