Armenian Deputy Minister of Economy Arman Khojoyan has dismissed media reports claiming that a shipment of Armenian apricots bound for Spain spoiled in transit and was no longer fit for sale.

On July 19, Armenian news website Armatmedia reported that a consignment of apricots exported from Armenia to Spain had allegedly spoiled on the way to its destination, resulting in significant losses.

Responding to the report, Khojoyan wrote on his Facebook page that Armenia has not yet exported any apricots to Spain.

“The entire internet is saying that apricots exported to Spain spoiled in transit. Armenia has not yet exported any apricots to Spain,” Khojoyan wrote.

Russia has imposed restrictions on imports of stone fruits and grapes from Armenia since June 2.

In response, the Armenian government has taken steps to diversify export markets, creating opportunities for Armenian products to enter European markets. Armenia has already begun exporting certain products to European Union member states.

The European Union also plans to temporarily suspend import duties on around 80% of Armenian products as a support measure for Armenia amid the restrictions imposed by Russia.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
