Israel, under pressure from Azerbaijan, removed the issue of recognition of the Armenian Genocide from the Knesset agenda. As Haaretz learned, Israeli officials assured their Azerbaijani counterparts that this issue will be removed from the Knesset agenda.
An Israeli source said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally blocked the vote after a senior political adviser to the Azerbaijani president (Azerbaijani President Aliyev’s adviser Hikmet Hajiyev) contacted his office.
The source said that the Israeli government’s decision on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, which was approved last month, was not put to a vote in the Knesset due to pressure exerted by Azerbaijan on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
