Former RA human rights defender Arman Tatoyan presented the security risks that Armenia will face after the handover of the so-called enclaves.
“Every time you hear that some people talk about the so-called enclaves in Tavush and Tigranashen and show you maps, lines drawn on the maps, please pay attention not to those maps and those lines, but ask what will happen to the people who live in those villages, what will happen to the rights of our citizens, the security of our state, how the future of our state will be arranged.
Now I will show these problems with concrete examples. This is the Tavush region, this part marked with dark green is the so-called Sofulu, Barkhudarlu enclaves, which are allegedly Azerbaijani and should be handed over to them. A little further in this area is the city of Ijevan, here are the villages of Aygehovit, Vazashen, Ditavan. First, the historical documents prove that by the decision of Sofulu and Barkhudarlu on July 19-20, 1929 (we are talking about the local commission for resolving forest and land disputes of the Central Executive Committee of the Inter-Confederation), approximately 3400 ha were handed over to Dilijan Province. This is one. Second, if this part is handed over to Azerbaijan, our The connection between the settlements of Azatamut and Kayan is immediately blocked, and the so-called Azerbaijani territory appears in Armenia.
And it turns out that if this is their sovereign territory, then in order to have access to their territory, they will also want a corridor from here and say, well, give us a chance, let’s go to our territory. And since it is their “sovereign territory” here, they will bring military forces, for example, they can deploy a military base, build a military unit, bring all the armed services here and deploy them here, and this is within the territory of the Republic of Armenia. Azerbaijani troops may appear in the immediate vicinity of our settlements,” Arman Tatoyan elaborates, adding that the road leading to Aygehovit and Vazashen will be blocked, that is, villages will be isolated.
“We have more than 10 km in the Vazashen sector, which has been under Azerbaijani occupation since the 1990s. The question arises: will they continue to stay in these areas, will they strengthen themselves?”, says the former human rights defender.
