South Korean authorities are considering banning children under the age of 14 from using social media. The announcement was made by Kim Jong-cheol, Chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission.
“We are considering a plan to restrict the creation of social media accounts by children under the age of 14, as well as to limit the impact of algorithms that encourage excessive use of such platforms among adolescents aged 14 to 19,” Kim said, according to Yonhap News Agency.
The chairperson of the commission said that about seven bills concerning the use of social media by minors have been introduced in parliament.
