Innovation and Digital Transformation Minister Ivan Vasilev met with Armenian Ambassador to Bulgaria Tsovinar Hambardzumyan, the Ministry’s press service said on Thursday.

The two discussed opportunities for exchanging expertise and cooperating in the fields of chips, semiconductors, microelectronics and information technology, among others. Vasilev noted that Bulgaria has a long-standing tradition in these sectors and a highly qualified workforce.

He highlighted a memorandum of cooperation in technological innovation and research and development signed a year ago by the relevant ministries of the two countries. The document provides a framework for cooperation in areas including artificial intelligence (AI), exchanges of ICT specialists and the development of startup ecosystems.

The talks also covered data centres, the Bulgarian and Armenian IT ecosystems, BgGPT AI language model and the importance of supercomputers.

During the meeting at the Ministry, Vasilev presented his main priorities: building a high-value-added economy, positioning Bulgaria as a preferred destination for high-tech investment, and digitally transforming work processes and administrative services to make them easier and more convenient for citizens and businesses.

“I am confident that we can achieve these goals by the end of this government’s term,” Vasilev said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
