Since the early morning of July 6, the investigative committee has been carrying out operations in the private house of the leader of the “Prosperous Armenia” party, Gagik Tsarukyan, which is surrounded by armed forces. The access of the politician’s lawyers to the territory is prohibited.
According to the circulating information, investigative actions are being carried out within the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated on the alleged case of money laundering. The Investigative Committee officially confirmed the fact of the searches, stressing that it will issue a comprehensive report later.
The situation at the scene remains tense. According to Arman Abovyan, the candidate of the PAP pre-election list, the private house is surrounded by people in military uniforms and armed with assault rifles. He noted that the law enforcement officers do not allow the defenders to enter the territory, which he described as a gross violation of the law.
In parallel, information is also reported about similar activities taking place at the base of the Olympic Committee. These developments follow the public criminal prosecution against Tsarukyan, which began on June 9, accusing him of particularly large-scale tax evasion, as a result of which he was banned from leaving the country’s borders.
It should also be reminded that earlier the Prosecutor’s Office petitioned the CEC to deprive him of his immunity, but the issue was never discussed.
