The Armenian government has approved a large package of projects worth 650 million dollars aimed at the development of Yerevan’s infrastructure. The construction of Ajapnyak metro station stands out as the most mature and close to implementation key component of this initiative. During the working meeting held on July 6, the mayor of the capital city, Tigran Avinyan, announced that the design budget documents of the new station are already completely ready.

Large-scale funding will be directed to the implementation of three main city projects. In addition to the construction of a new station, it is planned to carry out a comprehensive modernization of the metro infrastructure, the provision of the last phase of the purchase of electric buses, the overhaul of two depots and the introduction of separate lanes for public transport. The approved package also includes an important component of the improvement of Dalma Gardens.

The mayor emphasized that time is the primary and most valuable factor for the city authorities on the way to the implementation of the project. According to Avinyan, due to the lack of engineering projects of this scale for decades, the experience of managing them has disappeared in the country. Therefore, in order to ensure the high quality and efficiency of the works, it will be necessary to involve construction companies with international experience and engineers performing technical control. “The money is there, the most important factor for us is time,” he assured.

In the next month or two, the municipality should clarify the final format of the project implementation. A decision will be made whether the process will be promoted with the support of one of the international financial partners, or whether preference will be given to the instrument of the Ministry of Finance, direct state budget financing. Avinyan instructed to clarify the position of international partners in a short period of time, so that the legal processes of purchases and land expropriation begin without unnecessary loss of time.
