At the session of July 2, the Armenian government approved the new, thoroughly digitalized procedure for issuing, suspending and restoring driver’s licenses, which aims to simplify administration, eliminate queues and exclude the abuse of legislative loopholes.
With the new model coming into effect on July 6, those citizens whose driving license has expired will have the opportunity to apply for its restoration within one year by paying a state fee of fifty thousand drams on the spot. Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan Prime Minister during the discussion of the presented project Nikol Pashinyan has clarified that this regulation will not apply to persons who have been deprived of their driving license by court judgments that have entered into force.
One of the key points of the new changes is the automated integration with the “Armed” electronic health system. This mechanism will allow automatically, without the need to visit the examination unit, to suspend the driver’s license of persons registered in psychiatric or narcotic institutions.
At the same time, digital control will solve the problem of citizens exempted from mandatory military service due to health problems, but driving cars. in the presence of an illness incompatible with driving, the right to operate a vehicle will be immediately blocked in the person’s profile.
The legislative package also implies a significant improvement in the conduct of driving tests. Taking into account the large flow of applicants, queue management problems and study periods in driving schools, the retention period for a positive result of the theory test will become two years instead of the existing one year. In addition, new questionnaires adapted to the category and subcategory of the vehicle will be introduced from September 1.
This approach will exclude, for example, asking the driver of a light passenger car questions about driving buses, making the examination process more logical and justified.
