“Team Telecom Armenia” and “Azertelecom” have agreed on a commercial basis on the mutual transit supply of the Internet in the territory of both countries, with the aim of diversifying the regional telecommunication channels.

As one of the leading mobile and Internet operators in Armenia, Team Telecom Armenia significantly expands the geography of international Internet traffic supply with this new bilateral agreement. Through the company’s own infrastructure, it is planned to provide uninterrupted Internet access to neighboring Azerbaijan.

In turn, according to the official message of the Azerbaijani side, within the framework of the transaction, “Azertelecom” will also provide Internet connection transit to Armenia, using its own technical capabilities.

Founded in 2008, this company is one of the largest trunk Internet operators in Azerbaijan, operating as part of “Azerconnect Group”, being a part of “NEQSOL Holding” group with an international presence in the fields of energy, telecommunications and construction. “The purpose of the agreement is to diversify the communication routes of the region, to increase the reliability of telecommunication networks and to develop sectoral cooperation,” the statement of the Azerbaijani communication operator emphasized.

This initiative fits into the context of larger regional infrastructure projects. In particular, within the framework of the TRIPP transport and energy program, parallel to the construction of gas pipelines, oil pipelines and railways, the laying of high-voltage power lines and modern internet cables through the territory of Armenia from Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan is already planned.

In a global perspective, this digital and transport corridor can assume a pivotal role, providing communication from Central Asian countries to Turkey and Europe.
