Moscow hopes that the Armenian authorities will not allow the new EU “mission” in the country to make Yerevan part of the anti-Russian policy. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

“We hope that our Armenian allies and friends will not allow us to use the new, so to speak, mission to interfere in their internal affairs and involve Yerevan in the geopolitical games of the West, which imply the destruction of friendly ties with our country and joining the anti-Russian policy of Brussels,” he said during the briefing.

The diplomat noted that the European Union does not hide that the new civil mission in Armenia will allow to influence the outcome of the parliamentary elections. Under the pretext of tracking illegal financial flows and countering cyberattacks, the EU will try to interfere in Armenia’s internal affairs, added Zakharova.

“It is obvious that the new mechanism, which is presented by EU members as an alleged aid to Yerevan in the fight against hybrid threats, actually provides Brussels with additional leverage to influence Armenian ministries and national institutions. Among them, and we know the EU well, and it cannot be ruled out in any case, they want and want to influence the result of the parliamentary elections on June 7”, Zakharova stated.
