Armenia’s Davit Chaloyan has advanced to the semifinals of the Boxing World Cup in Brazil after defeating his Turkish opponent in the quarterfinals, the Armenian Boxing Federation reported.
The bout ended in the second round when the Turkish boxer sustained an injury following a series of punches from Chaloyan on Saturday. Judges awarded the victory to the Armenian based on points accumulated up to that stage.
With the win, Chaloyan has secured at least a bronze medal and will fight for a place in the finals on Sunday.
