A commemorative event marking the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held in Rome, Italy. Representatives of the local Armenian community, Rome city officials, Armenian embassy staff, as well as many others attended the ceremony, an Armenpress correspondent reported from Rome.
Clergy from the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Armenian Catholic Church were also present at the event and offered a joint prayer in remembrance of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
Armenia’s Ambassador to Italy, Vladimir Karapetyan, delivered remarks, emphasizing the importance of international efforts to prevent genocides and highlighting the need to preserve memory as a foundation for prevention and international cooperation.
The ambassador also referred to Armenia’s efforts in recent years within the framework of the United Nations aimed at genocide prevention.
Ambassador Karapetyan further stressed the importance of establishing peace in the region and with neighboring countries as a means of ensuring the security and prosperity of the Armenian people.
