Koran translated into Armenian

According to the order of Turkey’s Presidency of Religious Affairs, the Koran has been translated into Armenian, Chairman of the Presidency Mehmet Görmez has informed.

Ermenihaber.am reports quoting Turkish memeurlar.net website that the translation has been made by Yavuz Aydin from the Faculty of Armenian Language and Culture at Ankara University.

The translation has been edited by Bagrat Estukyan, editor of the Armenian pages of the Istanbul-based Agos weekly. This version of Koran consists of 10 volumes (2,500 pages). Four thousand copies of it have been published.

“I think this was an essential, important and special initiative. The translation of both the Bible and the Koran into different languages is important,” Bagrat Estukyan said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
