Zhoghovurd: Russia to raise Armenia’s gas supply prices

11:02 * 04.04.15

The paper says it has learned from sources that Russia is planning to
raise its natural gas supply tariffs for Armenia.

The issue was reportedly discussed in a recent phone conversation
between Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan and his Russian counterpart,
Dmitry Medvedev.

The paper says it hasn’t managed to find out how much exactly the
country intends to raise the price.

It notes, however, that Russia currently supplies natural gas to
Armenia for $200 per cubic meter. The paper adds, citing its sources,
that attempts are now being made to set up a group of specialists to
study the problem and see if there are any justifications behind the
planned surge. This, strikingly enough, is against the backdrop of
falling prices of energy carriers across the globe, says the paper,
adding that the Russian authorities seek simply to all the time
increase the prices of gas supplied to Armenia.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
