NATO Week Armenia 2014; Handover Reception

YEREVAN, Armenia

The U.S. Embassy issued the following news release:

U.S. Ambassador in Armenia John Heffern hosted a reception in honor of
NATO Week in Armenia (November 10-14). NATO Week is an initiative
organized by NATO Ally embassies in Armenia, in close partnership with
the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defense. The
theme this year is women, peace and security, and interoperability.
The events of the week focused on Armenia’s valuable partnership with
NATO in Kosovo and Afghanistan as well as through the Partnership for
Peace program. This year’s reception at the U.S. Ambassador’s
residence had an added level of symbolism and meaning, as it marked
the official handover of duties as NATO Contact Embassy from the
British to the German diplomatic missions in Yerevan. Guests at the
reception included Armenian government officials, foreign diplomats,
military attaches, journalists, and civil society representatives.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
