The situation in Syria has not changed and remains unpredictable,
Lusine Stepanyan, head of Armenian community department of Middle East
at the Armenian Diaspora Ministry, told Panorama.am.

Speaking about Kessab Armenians’ return to their homes, the official
said that work is underway in that direction.

“After the March 21 events in Kessab it is impossible to restore the
town in a short time, but life is slowly returning to normal,” Mrs
Stepanyan said.

She noted that several Armenian families from Kessab remain in Armenia.

“The condition of Armenians in Syria depends on the general situation
in that country,” Lusine Stepanyan said.

Citing the Diaspora Ministry’s data, the official said that
40,000-45,000 Armenians remain in Syria and 12,000 Syrian Armenians
have moved to Armenia.
