Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov laid a wreath to the memorial
to the victims of the 1915 Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire
in Yerevan on Monday.

The minister came to Armenia on Sunday on a two-day official visit.

The memorial to the victims of the 1915 Armenian genocide in the
Ottoman Empire was built in 1967 on the orders from the leadership
of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. It symbolizes the grief
for the victims of the manslaughter and deportation and the revival
of the Armenian people.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was the first leader of contemporary
Russia to visit the memorial on September 15, 2001. He visited the
memorial again on December 2, 2013, during his state visit to Armenia.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
