RUBEN HAKOBYAN: DISRESPECT WAS SHOWN FOR ARMENIA IN ASTANA

“President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev made a rather serious
statement in Astana. Disrespect was shown for Armenia and President
Serzh Sargsyan at that meeting,” the head of Heritage faction Ruben
Hakobyan said in the Armenian parliament today.

In his words, four-year foreign-policy wanderings did not produce
any results.

“Apart from the question of whether accession to which organization
will be more correct, one thing is clear: we are told what to do. I
don’t know if Armenia is allowed to say something. I am sure that you
don’t know either,” R. Hakobyan told the parliamentary majority. He
at the same time advised them not to be afraid of criticism and
discussions.

In response, the parliamentary vice speaker Hermine Naghdalian said
the Armenian authorities are not conducting negotiations over an
issue to the prejudice of the state’s interests.

We would remind you that at the May 29 meeting of the Supreme Eurasian
Economic Council in Astana, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev read
aloud the letter of Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev and then said,
addressing Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan: “So as not to excite
our friend in Azerbaijan, you should join the Eurasian Union with the
borders fixed in the UN – as you joined the World Trade Organization”.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
