ARMENIAN CONSTITUTIONAL COURT EXAMINES THE CONSTITUTIONALITY OF THE PENSION LAW

Armenia’s Constitutional Court, after hearing the parties’ final word
on the question of constitutionality of several provisions of the law
“On the Funded Pensions,” retire to the deliberation room .

According to the chairman of the Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunyan
, given the volume of work , the COP does not have time to make a
decision today. It is possible that the Constitutional Court will
decide tomorrow or the day after, reports NEWS.am.

The lawsuit contesting the constitutionality of several provisions
of the law is provided by MP from ARF Artsvik Minasyan, human
rights activist and Artak Zeynalyan and lawyer Meri Khachatryan. The
defendants in the case are the head of the National Assembly Standing
Committee on Social Affairs , member of the ruling Republican Party of
Armenia, Hagop Hagopian, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Artem
Asatryan, and vice chairman of the Central Bank of Nerses Yeritsyan .

In Armenia since January 1, 2014, a mandatory funded pension system
was introduced, provided by the law “On the Funded Pensions” which
was adopted by the National Assembly in 2010.
