YEREVAN. – Deacon Andranik Manukyan, who is a distinguished musician,
ethnographer, and founder of several folk music ensembles, decided
to seek political asylum in foreign countries, Haykakan Zhamanak
daily reports.

“[And] several more [Armenian capital city] Yerevan residents will
follow his example.

“Not believing that constitutional rights can be restored and
protected in Armenia, [and] not reconciling with the reality of a
company’s construction of a multi-profile building in their own yard
[in Downtown Yerevan], several residents of the area have decided to
[make such a] petition to the ambassadors of foreign countries to
Armenia,” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
