ARMENIA’S BUSINESS ACTIVITY INDEX SHEDS 1.5 POINTS TO 58.2 IN 2ND Q

YEREVAN, September 18. /ARKA/. Business activity index in Armenia sank
1.5 percentage points in the second quarter of this year, compared
with the previous quarter, to 58.2, the press office of the Central
bank of Armenia reports.

Armenia’s industry showed the highest quarter-on-quarter activity
index – 61 against 61.9% in the first quarter of this year.

Trade sector recorded 58.4 (1.2-point decline), services area 56.8
(a two-point decline) and construction 56 (a two-point decline).

Besides, business environment index stood at 53.7 after going 1.8
points down, compared with the previous quarter’s result, and showed
stable sentiments in business environment.

Industry was singled out for the highest business environment index
– 55.9, which rose 1.2 points in the second quarter, compared with
first quarter.

Construction recorded 50 (1.2-point decline), trade 55.4 (0.8-point
increase) and services 53.5 (8.2 decline).

Calculation of the business activity index is based on an averaged
method of respondents’ estimates and outlooks on industrial output
orders for output and changes in industrial reserves.

The business environment index is figured out by averaging
organizations’ estimates on changes of economic things and risks.

The Central Bank of Armenia started conducting its quarterly surveys
of financial, non-financial organizations and households in 2005 to
assess economic expectations of respondents and calculate indices.
