YEREVAN. – The members of the “We will not Pay 150 Drams” initiative
gathered Tuesday morning nearby the Armenian capital city Yerevan
Municipality (PHOTOS).

The police, however, do not allow the demonstrators to approach
the city hall building. But the protesters intend to approach the
municipality entrance.

The law enforcement already detained three picketers. Yerevan Deputy
Police Chief Valeri Osipyan told news reporters that the activists
had violated the public order.

In addition, the protesters want to carry out a march and call upon
people not to pay 150 drams (approx. $0.36)-instead of the previous
100 drams (approx. $0.24)-for using the public transport.

Incidentally, the journalists likewise will stage a protest at
noon nearby the municipality building. They demand the dismissal
of Municipality Transport Department Chief Henrik Navasardyan who,
instead of answering to a question that was posed to him by a news
reporter, he had cursed at the journalist.

Another demonstration is slated for 4pm in the vicinity of the Yerevan
Municipality. Until then, however, the activists will walk around the
city, and those joining the “We will not Pay 150 Drams” initiative
will continue to drive the commuters with their own vehicles, and at
no cost.
