LAWYERS START PROTEST AGAINST COURT OF CASSATION

12:04 PM | TODAY | SOCIAL

Hundreds of lawyers in Armenia today are starting a protest action
against the “unacceptable behavior” of the Court of Cassation, which,
they say is applying double standards and “turning a blind eye”
to numerous violations. The lawyers are not going to participate in
criminal, civil or administrative hearings on June 10 and 11. Nor will
they attend pre-trial investigations and other judicial procedures.

Hayk Alumyan, one of the 46 lawyers standing behind the protest,
says some 201 lawyers have confirmed their participation in the
move through the Internet and SMS. However the final number of the
participants will be known during a roundtable discussion.

Lawyers began their protests over the matter still in 2012 when lawyers
did not work on June 11, thus expressing their protest against the
‘double standards’ and ‘arbitrariness’ of the Court of Cassation.

They promised to continue protests if the problem was not addressed,
Pastinfo news agency reports.
