May 28, 1918
The first Republic of Armenia was born 95 years ago. Four women were
elected to the national parliament and one woman, Diana Apgar, became
the ambassador to Japan.

Several ARS chapters, then known as “Hai Garmir Khach”, were organized
in Armenia during 1919-1920 by Leola Sassouni. After Armenia was
sovietized, the ARS had to cease operations in Armenia, but returned
in 1988 to assist the victims of the earthquake in Spitak.
