Members of a Kurdish political party represented in Turkey’s parliament
have called upon the country to recognize the Armenian Genocide

In statement issued on the 98th anniversary of the evil crime, the
Justice and Democracy lawmers has described the Genocide as one of
the 20th century’s biggest crimes.

The Kurdish parliament members say that even a century later, the
violent atrocity still leaves the two brother nations and the world
community with profound pangs of conscience.

“The trauma and pains of the Genocide still remain in our memories,
with the Turkish society not having yet confronted one of the biggest
genocides of the 20th century and apologized for the Genocide to
clear its conscience,” reads the statement.

The authors say further that the Turkish state still continues using
threats against people with different identities, religion and culture.

“But the process towards finding democratic route inspires positive
hopes for preventing such developments in case of demonstrating peace,
friendship and freedom. We call upon Turkey to confront its history
and apologize to the Armenian people. We respect the memory of the
Armenian Genocide victims, hopeful that such crimes will never again
recur,” say the Kurdish MPs.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
