Judge reappointed to three-year term in Bernards Township

BERNARDS TWP. – Municipal Judge Donald P. Bogosian was reappointed by
the Township Committee on Tuesday, March 12, to serve another three
years.
Bogosian has held the post since March 2007. He also presides over the
joint New Providence-Berkeley Heights and Summit municipal courts.
`Judge Bogosian by all accounts is one of the best in the vicinage, is
professional and respected,’ Township Administrator Bruce McArthur
told the committee.
McArthur noted that Bogosian and the municipal prosecutor, Stephen
O. Davis, each accepted pay cuts to `keep the court affordable.’
Municipal courts have become a target of cost-sharing efforts, and
last year township officials initiated talks with Bedminster Township
about forming a joint court. Ultimately, Bernards officials ended the
talks, citing obstacles from the state.
Bogosian will be paid an annual salary of $46,000, down from $47,000
last year. Davis, who was reappointed to a one-year term in January,
will receive $38,000, down from last year’s salary of $40,261.
Committeeman Scott Spitzer said the concessions by the judge and
prosecutor are `reflective of their commitment to our community.’
Committeeman John Malay said the concessions also reflect well on the
court’s staff members, showing =80=9Cit’s easy and efficient to work
with them.’
The municipal court administrator is Luisa De Leon, who assumed the
post on Jan. 1 after serving as deputy court administrator. She
succeeded Carol Miller, who retired after 12 years in the post and 24
years on the municipal staff.
De Leon was hired at an annual salary of $62,000.
