S. Mkhitaryan, an inmate of the Nubarashen penitentiary, attempted
suicide on Monday.

Officers managed to prevent the suicide, Gor Ghlechyan, Spokesman
for the Department for Execution of Punishments, told Tert.am.

“He did not say anything. He is discontented with the preliminary
investigation,” Mr Ghlechyan said.

He noted that the penitentiary system is not authorized to petition
for a new investigation.

S. Mkhitaryan was sentenced to six years for robbery in
Nagorno-Karabakh. He began serving his sentence in Shushi and then
was transferred to Yerevan’s Nubarashen prison.

Representatives of the social and psychological and the legal
departments visited S. Mkhitaryan.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
