Levon Zurabyan, Head of the Armenian National Congress (ANC)
parliamentary group, and Armenia’s ex-FM Vartan Oskanian, a member
of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) parliamentary group, lodged a
complaint with Armenia’s Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan.

They demand that criminal proceedings be initiated based on the
fact of “interception” of their conversation, with the record put on
the Internet.

In an interview with Azatutyun Radio, Mr Zurabyan said that the
complaint has been handed over to the Secretariat of Armenia’s
parliament to be re-addressed to Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office.

Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office is not yet studying the audio
that was put on the Internet and proved to be a headline-marker. The
argument is that neither Mr Zurabyan nor Mr Oskanian has yet lodged
a complaint. The ANC, however, states that “it is not a matter of
personal complaints, but of public charge: Mr Zurabyan’s statement
the same day was a legal ground for criminal proceedings, and the
Prosecutor’s Office was obliged to examine the facts without any
complaints.”

“According to the Code of Criminal Procedure, the audio put on the
Internet may be the ground for criminal proceedings. They are not
doing it, and I am not going to give them such a chance. I will just
lodge a written complaint for them to initiate criminal proceedings,”
Mr Zurabyan said.

Armenia’s National Security Service dismissed the allegations as
unfounded.

In his turn, Mr Zurabyan demands that Armenia’s Security Service find
the criminals.

“We must be demanding because a crime has been committed against
the constitutional right. Also, the audio of the conversation was
illegally put in social networks, which was a violation of our civil
rights. It is obvious to us that the special services committed that
crime. But they are claiming they have nothing in common with it. So
we are putting the question as follows: if you have nothing in common
with it, find the real criminals. Of course, we have no doubts it is
nothing but demagogy, but we will not allow the authorities to evade
responsibility for their crime,” Mr Zurabyan said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
