Baku unable to take part in all CIS military cooperation events –
defense minister

MOSCOW. Dec 11

Azerbaijan will not be able to take part in a number of military
cooperation programs within the CIS, Azeri Defense Minister Safar
Abiyev said.

“Azerbaijan is involved in a majority of programs within the CIS, but
it is not taking part in some of them because it finds it impossible
and undesirable,” Abiyev said after a session of the CIS Defense
Ministers Council in Moscow.

Azerbaijan will participate both in the Defense Ministers Council and
other CIS formats in the future, he said.

Due to territorial disputes with Armenia, which is also a CIS member,
Azerbaijan, as a rule, does not take part in joint military exercises
if they involve the Armenian Armed Forces.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
