FISH PRODUCTION IN ARMENIA TOTALS 8,150 TONS IN JAN-DEC: AGRICULTURE MINISTRY

YEREVAN, December 11. /ARKA/. Fish production in Armenia totaled
8,151 tons in January-December 2012, Fishing industry and Beekeeping
department at Armenia’s Ministry of Agriculture Tigran Aleksanyan
said Tuesday.

“In 2009 fish production in the republic totaled 5,280 tons, in 2010 it
rose to 5,420 tons, and in 2011 it was 6,814. As of 1 December 2012
fish production hit 8,151 tons,” he said at Novosti International
Press Center.

By the end of 2012 the Ministry plans to raise the volume to
8,800-8,900 tons, exceeding by 27% that of 2011, according to him.

Aleksanyan noted as of 1 December 2012 fish export also rose to nearly
1,200 versus 900 tons in 2011.

“We hope to raise the volume of not only fish production, but also
export as the final results are revealed on 1 January,” he said.

Armenia exports fish to Russia (nearly 80-90% of the total exported
production), Georgia, the UAE, and the U.S, Aleksanyan highlighted.

Armenia mainly exports trout and sturgeon. Aleksanyan also said there
are 250 fishing industry companies registered in Armenia. –0-
