NEW INTERNATIONAL STATUS OF ARMENIA

On November 27, Serzh Sargsyan will deliver a speech in the Lebanese
parliament, says MP Khaled Zahraman, member of the Future bloc of
the Lebanese parliament. We will be there to listen to the Armenian
president, not to discussion political issues, said Zahraman.
This information seems important in the context of Serzh Sargsyan’s
visit to France where Francois Hollande said the Armenian president
was expected to convey some messages to Iran. Perhaps the French
president also mentioned Syria in this relation. It is not ruled out
that on November 27, Serzh Sargsyan will relay some proposals of the
West relating to the Middle East countries.
Interestingly, during his visit to Armenia, the foreign minister
of Latvia was “highly interested” in Armenia’s experience with
Syria. The Latvian minister didn’t clarify what he meant precisely
but apparently, he meant the role of the Armenians in the relations
between the authorities and the opposition of Syria.
The Armenian foreign minister is leaving for the United Arab Emirates
and Kuwait amid the Palestine-Israel conflict. Apparently, he was asked
to convey something to the Arab leaders, perhaps relating to Turkey.
It is noteworthy that Russia which had a disagreement with Turkey
because of Assad is negotiating support to Palestine and its defense
from Israel with Ankara.
The transformation of Armenia’s role in this multi-layer process is
interesting. Armenia is apparently turning into a demanded “shuttle
diplomat” which is able to balance on antagonistic interests and,
most importantly, keep its mouth shut. It is only left to see whether
Armenia will benefit from its current international status.
