A number of design deviations have been detected under the project
to build Khachaghbyur-2 small water power plant on Paghjur river,
Armenia’s Environment Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan said in
the Armenian Parliament on Wednesday.

He said that the deviations were detected by a special committee
monitoring the construction of Khachaghbyur-1 and Khachaghbyur-2.

Oct 16 Trchkan Civil Initiative sent Harutyunyan an inquiry concerning
the Khachaghbyur-2 Water Power Plant project. The greens pointed
out that the contractor of the project, Megaenergy, was carrying
out the construction in the territory of two nature reserves, while
its papers said that there were no protected lands in the project
area. “They say that no trees will be cut down as the pipeline will
run along the road. But in reality there is no road in the area and
the 2.8 km long pipeline will run through woods, with lots of trees
to be cut. In fact, there has been no environmental examination. So,
we want to know why the Environmental Inspection has given green-light
to this project and who will be responsible for these lies contained in
the project documentation and for the damages being caused to nature,”
the greens said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
