YEREVAN.- The recent political developments suggest that Armenia is
steadily moving in the direction of democracy, fighting corruption
and strengthening national security, Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov
said in parliament on Tuesday.

“Armenia’s leadership took up development of a comprehensive reform
program to achieve a more effective management system. At the
conference of the European People’s Party, President Serzh Sargsyan
reaffirmed the fact that Armenia is an integral part of democratic
civilization,” Sharmazanov said addressing the lawmakers.

Speaking about belligerent statements of Azerbaijan, Sharmazanov noted
that it is very important to strengthen Armenia’s national security.

“In this context, military drills held by Nagorno-Karabakh Defense
Army are of key importance. This once again confirms high spirit and
combat readiness of the Armenian officers and soldiers,” he added.

The military exercises were followed by Azerbaijan’s response that they
“will soon liberate their lands”, Sharmazanov said.

“Azerbaijanis have nothing but to leave the occupied territory
of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and cope with the independence and
international recognition of NKR sooner or later,” emphasized Deputy
Speaker.
