Four Hungarian intellectuals, Zoltan Biro, historian, political
analyst, Dr. Gabor Ivani, President of John Wales Theological College,
Gabor Deak, journalist, and Rudolf Ungvar, IT engineer-mechanic,
writer condemned Safarov’s extradition to Azerbaijan by Hungary.

Gabor Deak noted that the Hungarian society criticizes this step but
since they have many other issues, this question is not raised by many
people. He noted that though they are four and arrived here on their
expenses, they, nevertheless, can speak on behalf of the majority of
the Hungarian people.

Dr. Gabor Ivani, describing the decision of the Hungarian government
as incomprehensible, added that it was adopted by the prime minister
solely. He added that they can feel worry and shame. The speaker
dwelt on the genocide of Armenians in 1915 noting that Hungary has
not yet recognized the genocide. The four intellectuals are going
to visit the Genocide Memorial, plant a tree there and visit Gurgen
Margaryan’s tomb.

Gabor Deak noted that the decision of the Armenian government to
suspend diplomatic relations with Hungary aroused interest in the
Armenian. “Few people in Hungary knew about Armenia and the 1915
tragic events, now many of them are interested,” said Deak.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
