YEREVAN, JANUARY 19, ARMENPRESS: A march commemorating the Armenians
killed in Baku and Sumgait massacres and marking Dink’s murder day
was organzied Thursday in Tsitsernakaberd.

The event was organized by Yerevan State University’s “Association
of Young University Colleagues” NGO. Head of the organization Gevorg
Melkonyan briefed journalists that the massacre of the Armenians
in Baku was the continuation of the Sumgait pogrom committed by the
Azerbaijani still in 1988, Armenpress reports.

“If international community had given political assessments to Sumgait,
Baku and Maragha pogroms in time, I am sure, Hrant Dink’s murder
would not happen in Turkey,” said Gevorg Melkonyan. He reminded that
all those people have been killed for the mere reason that they were
Armenians. “International community should give relevant political
assessments to all these events,” he said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
