DAHER: SYRIAN EMBASSY BEHIND EXPULSION OF KURDS FROM BOURJ HAMMOUD

Future bloc MP Khaled Daher said on Thursday that “the Syrian embassy
pressured the Tashnaq Party into expelling Kurdish Syrians from the
area of Bourj Hammoud,” which is mainly inhabited by Armenians.
“Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Ghadanfar Roken Abadi visited the
Tashnaq Party and Bourj Hammoud, which means that it is not us
[the March 14 alliance] who are receiving orders from any embassy,”
he also told Al-Akhbar al-Yawm news agency.
On October 29, Future News television quoted Syrian Kurdish people as
saying that a Tashnaq-related group informed Syrian Kurdish families
living in Bourj Hammoud “of the importance to evacuate their rented
houses in the area, after members of these families participated in
protests against the Syrian regime in front of the Syrian Embassy
in Beirut.”
Daher also said that “there are more than 10,000 Syrian refugees in
Lebanon, 3,500 of whom are in the Akkar area of Wadi Khaled.”
He also said that “Wadi Khaled suffers from a tragic living situation,”
adding that “a delegation from the March 14 coalition will soon visit
the area.”
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said on
Friday that there are currently 3,505 registered persons in the
North and Akkar, residing mostly with host families in difficult
circumstances.
According to United Nations estimates, more than 3,500 people have
been killed in the crackdown on Syrian protesters who have been
demonstrating against the Baath regime since mid-March. Thousands
have fled to Lebanon seeking refuge from the violence.
