Moscow – A landslide on a mountain highway in the Caucasian republic
Armenia buried 35 automobiles and injured at least eight motorists,
the Interfax news agency reported Monday.

Mud and stones loosened by heavy rains during Sunday night closed
the M6, a major road connecting Armenia and Georgia, officials from
Armenia’s Emergency Situations Ministry said.

The blockage was close to the border between the two countries but
on the Armenian side, news reports said.

Eight people had been hospitalised and at least four were missing,
the Georgian television channel Imedia said.

Road crews were on the scene and attempting to clear the blockage,
but new avalanches were making repair and rescue work more difficult,
the Armenian television Shant reported.
