PRESIDENT SARGSYAN MEETS UN SECRETARY GENERAL

On September 23 President Serzh Sargsyan had a working dinner with
the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Armenian Assembly of
America Hrair Hovnanian and Members of the Board.
The same day President Sargsyan had meetings the President of the UN
General Assembly Nasir Abdulaziz al Naser and UN Secretary General
Ban Ki-moon.
Serzh Sargsyan congratulated Nasir Abdulaziz al Naser on being elected
Chairman of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly. The parties
stressed the importance of the issues discussed at the session.
President Sargsyan specially emphasized the topic proposed by Nasir
Abdulaziz al Naser on the prevention and resolution of conflicts
through mediating efforts, which coincides with Armenia~Rs principles
of conflict settlement.
During the meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, President
Sargsyan noted that Armenia actively participates in the activities
of this universal organization and cooperates with different UN bodies.
The interlocutors highlighted the UN role in ensuring peace, stability
and security in the world. Reference was made to a number of regional
issues.
In the evening of September 23 President Sargsyan attended a reception
dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Armenia~Rs independence organized
by the Permanent Representation of Armenia at the UN and the American
Armenian organizations.
