MILITARY PARADE IN YEREVAN DISPLAYS THE POWER OF ARMENIAN ARMED FORCES

YEREVAN, September 21. / ARKA /. An unprecedented military parade
dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence was held
today in Republic Square in Yerevan.

It was watched by high-level military and political leadership of
the country headed by president Serzh Sargsyan.

Among those present were the president of the Nagorno-Karabakh
Republic Bako Sahakyan, the Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II
and the Catholicos of Cilicia Aram I.

The parade was steered by the chief of the General Staff of the Armed
Forces, Colonel-General Yuri Khachaturov. According to some reports,
about four thousand troops and over 300 pieces of military equipment,
including sophisticated weapons, like tactical missiles Tochka-U,
Smertch rocket systems, operational-tactical missile system 9K72
Elbrus, mobile anti-aircraft missile system S-300, heavy artillery,
modern self-propelled howitzers, antitank missiles, air defense
systems, fighters and choppers were displayed.

Army chaplains also participated in the parade that demonstrated the
achievement of the Armenian army over the 20 years of independence,
the power of the Armenian armed forces, considered one of the most
combat-ready in the region.
