The Tufenkian Foundation is teaming up with several Los Angeles
groups to raise funds for women’s shelters in Armenia. The effort
will culminate with a benefit reception to take place on Thursday,
Sept. 15 at the LA home of Dr. Avo Tavitian.

The Women’s Support Center (WSC) of Armenia was founded in 2010
through a partnership between USAID, the Tufenkian Foundation and
the Armenian International Women’s Association. WSC addresses urgent
needs for families affected by domestic violence though social and
psychological counseling as well as legal assistance, and provides
shelter, skill training, employment and protection of women and their
children whose lives are endangered (see attached Brochure).

WSC has also taken a leading role in establishing the “Coalition to
Stop Violence Against Women,” in partnership with seven other local
NGOs. The coalition also is working on strongly worded legislation
that protects the victim and punishes the perpetrator.
