Philippe Lefort appointed EU Special Representative for the South
Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia

Philippe Lefort appointed has been appointed European Union Special
Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia.
In this connection, Catherine Ashton High Representative of the Union
for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the
Commission, issued a statement welcoming the move.
“I am very pleased that we are appointing Philippe Lefort to this
important position.
Philippe Lefort has an in-depth knowledge of the region and years of
experience working there at the very highest level,” Ashton said,
considering the appointment an ideal choice expected to enhance the
EU’s role in this sensitive region of South Caucasus.
