Dialogue between Armenian opposition and authorities similar to
showdown – expert

YEREVAN. – The more the dialogue between Armenian opposition and
authorities continues, the better for the authorities, head of the
Union of political scientists of Armenia Hmayak Hovhannisyan told
Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, the benefit of the authorities is instant and is
shown by the fact of having a dialogue. At the same time, the benefit
of the oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) is questionable
and will appear only at the end, as a result of the dialogue.

Many experts believe that Armenia may have the scenario of Tunisia.
Authority in Armenia is lead by a mighty unanimous party with the
Armenian president at the head. The party controls every lever of the
state. However, authorities could attract the whole attention of the
society to the dialogue with ANC, Hovhannisyan added.

The dialogue is similar to a showdown with questions like `Do you
respect me?’ and the demonstration of the powers. It is a high
question whether the ANC will be able again to call so many people out
like it was at the end of February, 2008 after the presidential
elections, expert added.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
